Signs of Illness
A yearly trip to the vet is the best way to identify - and prevent - potential problems.
Call or visit your vet if your cat has any of these symptoms:
- Dull or patchy coat
- Suddenly not grooming himself
- Has not eaten for 24 hours
- Persistent and severe vomiting
- Prolonged diarrhea
- Red or watery eyes
- Nasal discharge or sneezing
- Strains to urinate, has bloody urine or frequent urination, or is anxious or crying around the litter box
It is especially important to visit the vet with your older cat. Just as we often develop health problems as we age, so do cats — only they’re better at hiding their pain than we are! So be sure to watch for weight loss, frequent urination, and urinating outside the litter box and get them to a vet before they become too ill.
We know that vet bills can be high when they are ill so we maintain a medical assistance fund for low-income pet owners. Please contact us so we can help prevent needless suffering.
